Dean's Digest

I hope you're enjoying our annual construction season at W. P. Carey. That's always a sign that great new things are just around the corner.

This time of year also brings us our high school summer programs, which began eight years ago with Mort Fleischer helping us launch Fleischer Scholars. In fact, the Fleischer Scholars are already on campus this week, with another week planned July 10-14. This is such a special program, showcasing the possibilities of college and business to deserving, economically disadvantaged students about to enter their senior year of high school. If you're not familiar with Fleischer Scholars, I encourage you to watch this video and see the impact it can have on students from across Arizona.

Two other programs get underway soon: Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) is a week-long summer residency program at the West campus, supported by the National Association of Black Accountants. ACAP runs June 18-22 and is designed for underrepresented high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Then from June 26-30, we host Business Scholars Institute, which brings together high-achieving high school juniors from any state to experience challenging business projects, meet faculty, and learn more about college life. Check out our BSI video to learn more about this great program.

Honoring our recent retirees

It's never easy to say goodbye to our colleagues and friends, who dedicate so many years to helping the school and our students be the best they can be. I hope you'll take a moment to read the list of this year's retirees and acknowledge everything they did to make W. P. Carey such a great place to be. And to see how your current coworkers improve life at W. P. Carey, check out the latest faculty and staff sketches!

Impacting the world through sport

You may have heard this week about ASU’s new partnership with adidas, creating the Global Sport Alliance. As part of that big news, Ken Shropshire will join the university from The Wharton School as the first Adidas Distinguished Professor of Global Sport, leading this transdisciplinary research center dedicated to examining the global impact of sports.

This is another in a long line of developments that keeps ASU at the top of the list of the most innovative institutions in America. Check out the Global Sport Alliance, and learn more about Ken, who will join the W. P. Carey faculty as a tenured professor in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship (as well as those of the law school, the Cronkite School, and the School of Social Transformation’s African and African American Studies program) on July 1.
