Flexible Work Arrangements for Staff

As we continue to support flexible work arrangements, we want to remind you to ensure that all Flexible Work Arrangements (FWAs) are properly submitted and approved through Workday.

Action Items:

  • Employees:
  • Supervisors:
    • Review and approve FWA requests in Workday My Tasks.
    • Monitor the status of your team’s arrangements using the Workers with Flexible Work Arrangements report in Workday.
    • Ensure arrangements align with business needs, service requirements, and productivity expectations.

Key Considerations & Supervisor Guidelines:

  • W. P. Carey may modify, suspend, or discontinue any flexible work arrangement as business needs change.
  • Supervisors should establish clear evaluation methods, productivity metrics, and accountability measures.
  • Are only available for staff who are meeting expectations.
  • Regular check-ins between employees and supervisors are expected to ensure work performance standards are met.
  • ASU policies, rules, and regulations apply at all work locations, including remote sites.

Additional Considerations Before Approving an FWA:

  • Potential costs such as courier services, equipment, or out-of-state employment requirements.
  • Business impact of remote work, including workload reallocation and in-office expectations.

Best Practices for Managing Remote & Hybrid Employees:

  • Monitor burnout – Balance virtual meetings and work time effectively.
  • Set availability expectations – Employees should be reachable within agreed-upon work hours.
  • Ensure transparency – Encourage Outlook calendar sharing and clear communication.
  • Establish trust – Assume positive intent, and let performance metrics speak for productivity.
  • Encourage engagement – Utilize platforms like Slack, Zoom, or Teams appropriately and encourage camera use during virtual meetings.
  • Require location notification – Remote employees should inform their supervisor if they leave the agreed-upon work location.
